Just like every interesting game, the publishers, ‘Lookout games’, has released an expansion pack for their best selling game ‘Agricola’. The expansion pack features multiple small card decks and some other essential extra’s for this card game. The first edition of the game was released back in 2007 and it was an instant hit. The cards game sold in millions and some of the retailers ran out of stock, as early as day one! The new version, Agricola – The goodies’, released a few day’s back is facing the same issue with its sale. And retailers are running back and forth to re-order stocks. This new version is not a limited version pack as it was thought to be, but the publishers are intending to keep it limited and they will cease the publishing of these packs after a certain while. So grab your copy today, you may never know when the stocks might run out!

The game in its appearance is strikingly similar to the well known game, ‘Reiner Knizia’. But, the game ‘Campos’ – by Pietro Vozzolo’s – shares little in common with its game play & strategy, to that game.

This game resumes with each player receiving 3 to 5 hidden score cards. Along with these cards the player has two face-up triangular tiles. One of which’s laid out in the middle of the table. During a players turn, the player can choose to add both the tiles to the growing hexagonal mess or can add one of the two tiles to the central display. After placing the tiles the players can play the scoring card. The scoring cards instruct that the largest mass of color, say A; is/should be larger than the largest mass of color B. The score points are based and is equal to the number of hexagonal tiles in the largest mass of colour C.

At the end of every new turn, a player needs to draw one or two new tiles from growing contiguous mass, and in this way the game continues until someone runs out of scoring cards or when, either of the players runs of all the scoring cards. The game can also come to a grinding end when the players are no longer able to refill their visible display of tiles. In the end that player with the highest score, wins the game. The end of the game is decided once all the tiles are removed from the play.

With use of some pre-defined tips and tricks anyone can master their art of gaming, which when used with some precise strategy, will make for some serious wins. So here are some 12 or so tips & tactics for you to use during the game of: ‘Axis & Allies – Gudalcanal,’ which is a role playing strategy game. Some of the tips may differ during actual play, so players do need to try and test for the efficiency of each as every game can be differently played and solely depends on the gamer. Starting with;

1: The player who makes a second move has a greater advantage over the first players move. This is because, the first player can find it difficult to predict the second player’s moves even though, considering; they are played back and forth during in the game. The best move for the first player to secure his base in a better way is to cover up with a strong formation of both the air force and naval unit together.

2: Air crafts can act as more powerful units in the inventory. For the player making his first move, he can make use of aircrafts to land armies, toggle attacks; instead of letting the foot soldiers get wasted in a secured opponent’s territory. This way, not only are the fleet of soldiers saved and secured for further attacks it is also more reliable.

3: In the initial stages of the game, conservation is the key factor. The player has to try and conserve his forces; the aircrafts for instance should not be ventured in lonesome state blindly. Such can prove bad for the artillery and the player will be left with lesser aircrafts till at the end, to fight any further.

4: The thing with submarines, is that they move and then attack a target. So for a player playing the first move should plan accordingly and deploy their sub’s so they can cause major damage. Striking out on the opponent with the use os sub in the later stage can hammer the player, as the opponent may use his own before the first player does. This can be devastating an attack for a fruitless strategy.

5: Use of subs should be such that they are always in multiple of number. There should be more than one when they are deployed but only one sub should be used, at a time, for attacking a particular target. The chance of sinking a target with multiple subs attacking is far greater too.

6: Instead of moving aircraft carrier more frequently, try moving the aircraft. This will save the player from some damage and in worst cases will retain a number of a useful aircrafts. These can be used to attack back.

7: Always carry and load transports and destroyers, these can even be carried with the units themselves. The transports and destroyers are rarely used but one can never deny when they can come in handy. Especially in the sea covered zones where one or many island are interconnected and are accessible by transports.

8: Don’t forget to unload the transports and destroyers where there is considered safety or if the area is secured by friendly forces. This will keep the transports safe and can be helpful in re-working the configuration of the game.

9: The players ‘capital ships’ are completely destroyed on a hit of 1 that is if the dice indicates a ‘1’ when rolled. If a ‘2’ turns up on the dice the ship is not totally destroyed but is damaged enough to be moved to the damage box. So keep a lookout for this to not get into trickery.

10: Artillery should be positioned in such a way that they cover against attack from the opponents by being out of the comfort zone and located away from the naval units.

11: Try planning to build an air field away from the home base. This can be done when the game resumes and it is safe as the base will grow stronger by the time the opponents try to reach for it.

12: Each of the unit in the inventory should be protected under a cover provided by the safety of naval unit. Always make use of ‘battle box’ from the naval unit for gaining an advantage.

Brian Yu is 33 years of age living in Los Angeles, California. He has been at Mattel for 9 years and has been enjoying his dream job that is designing board games for Mattel.

Yu and his brother, Dale have been playing games since childhood. Dale would encourage Yu on Saturday mornings to play Axis & Allies or Conquest of the Empire on the dining room table. He recalls enjoying a good amount of the Game Master Series games, the requisite games of Monopoly and other mass market games with him. He also has fond memories of an old TSR tank battle game called Sirocco.

With the arrival of home video games, Yu moved away from board games. He played plenty starting with the NES and continuing to the 360 and PS3.

In 1995, Yu got to know about The Settlers of Catan through a friend. He felt it was a revelation, but couldn’t make a connection. It was most likely an irregularity and he was happy to play it, but never thought to seek for more games like it. Later, Dale got Christmas Linie 1 and Fossil board games which Yu began playing. He was hooked, but still not a full nerd yet. Yu never got his own games but used to wait for Dale to return from college with new games and they would play during holidays.

Yu met a friend, Dan Sanfilippo who was an industrial designer and he had an internship with Hasbro. He offered him a job there. Yu went and applied for an internship for the next quarter, but was turned away since he wasn’t an Industrial Design major. Luckily, Yu got a job at Mattel and everything worked itself out in the end.

What can be more interesting than a strategy based board game with miners, spy, captain Marshals, and foot soldiers to play with! In this game you have to safeguard you flag from them (the enemies) by surrounding it with bombs. The strategy is to block the enemy from entering and capturing the flag, and if there are more bombs without any miners; it becomes impossible from them to make an entry. Thus you chance of winning the game are doubled.

The simplest way to plant bombs while you make a progress forward towards the enemy line is using spies. Spies are the ones used to plant bombs. The identity of the spy should be maintained till it is possible. If the spy is identified by the opponent they become aware of the location of the bomb, and also if the spy is a casualty of the ongoing war, the Marshal of the opposing team gains more power.

The most basic thing to do is to keep a keen eye on the placement of opponent’s pieces. A quick look and you will have a fair amount of idea as to what the strategy could be. If some of the pieces on his side aren’t moved for a very long time guess can be made as for the location of the planted bomb. Use this same trick cunningly and move your own pieces so as not to hint the same at the opponent. Marshals and Generals are the soul of the colonies and preserving them is a priority. Don’t let them venture into any territory without some support.

Scouts are the last of the pieces that remain and become increasingly powerful as the game nears an end. At the start of the game, these scouts; few of them should be placed in the rear ranks. This will help when the need arises.

Universal has involved an American director, Gore Verbinski to create the exciting game of “Clue”. He would be directing a live-action, murder and mystery kind of concept based on the Hasbro board game. “Clue” is one among the few board games to exceed $1 billion in making profits, in almost 50 markets

Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir, together have an overall agreement at the studio. Hence Verbinski will join them with his U-based Blind Wink banner to produce the game. The next game that Verbinski will be directing is “Bioshock” for U.

Clue was created in England by a retired legal clerk named Anthony Pratt during WWII and published in 1948. A previous film version was released in 1985.

During this summer, Paramount will distribute both “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra,” belonging to Hasbro. At Universal, Hasbro created “Stretch Armstrong,” which had Steve Oedekerk as writer; the Ridley Scott-directed “Monopoly“; “Candyland,” which Etan Cohen (”Tropic Thunder”) is scripting for Kevin Lima to direct; and “Ouija,” which is being directed by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes banner.

Verbinski tracked the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films by directing the animated Paramount feature “Rango” with Johnny Depp.

“Clue” will be turned into a suspenseful concept that Blind Wink senior VP Jonathan Krauss named “A global thriller and trans-media event that uses deductive reasoning as its storytelling engine.”

Tic-tac-toe also has another spelling that’s tick tack toe. Sometimes its also known noughts and crosses, X’s and O’s, and many other names. The game is based on pencil-and-paper to be played by two players, O and X, who take turns to mark the 3×3 grid in the empty spaces. The player should able to place three respective marks to win the game; this has to be in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row.

Players soon found that best play from both parties leads to a draw. Hence, tic-tac-toe is most often proffered by young children; when they don’t find a good enough strategy they move on to more refined games such as chess or chinese checkers. This status for simplicity has led to casinos offering gamblers the chance to play tic-tac-toe against trained chickens.

The plainness of tic-tac-toe makes it perfect as an educational tool for coaching the concepts of combinatorial game theory and the stem of artificial cleverness that deals with the searching of game trees. It is simple to write a computer program to play tic-tac-toe perfectly, to enumerate the 765 essentially unlike places (the state space complexity), or the 26,830 probable games up to rotations and reflections (the game tree complexity) on this space.

One case of a Tic-Tac-Toe playing computer is the Tinkertoy computer, developed by MIT students, and made out of Tinker Toys. It only plays Tic-Tac-Toe and has always won the game. It is at present on display at the Museum of Science, Boston.
